Police in East Orange are actively investigating a shots fired incident that sent one person to the hospital in an East Orange neighborhood on Monday evening.
Reports of shots fired rang out less than two hundred feet from the entrance of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah Witnesses worship house located at Elmwood Avenue and Telford before 8:30 p.m. sending police to the scene where they found one person suffering a gunshot wound at that location.
The victim was transported to University Hospital in Newark where authorities say doctors treated his injuries that were not reported as life-threatening according to reports.
Police closed off Elmwood Avenue from Halsted to Telford as they focused their attention and placed evidence markers near a house next door to the worship center.
The victim was not a member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah Witnesses according to witnesses at the scene who are familiar with the victim.
East Orange City officials did not return calls for public information, but the Essex County authorities said the victim's injuries were not fatal as of 9 p.m.
