An early morning shot fired investigation had Newark Police detectives on a street in the city's upper West Ward Saturday morning.
According to police, gunfire rang out in the single digit block of West End Avenue before 3:40 a.m. sending police to the scene where they found evidence that a shooting occurred but a search of the area did not indicate a victim.
Police located shell casings at the scene during their search of the area.
Authorities are checking into the possibility of a vehicle found with bullet holes on a street in Newark's South Ward is related to the West End shooting.
The motive for the incident remains under investigation.
