Gunfire Erupts in Newark's South Ward Resulting in Property Damage

Police checked hospitals in the region for possible victims after gunfire erupted in a Newark South Ward neighborhood Monday night.

It happened just before 8 p.m. in the 200 block of Avon Avenue where a male suspect reportedly arrived in the area and began to fire shots at an unknown target.

Police officers arrived at the scene and found several shell casings and a car struck by bullets, but a search of the area did not indicate any victims.

The motive for the shooting remains under investigation.
