Police closed a section of a road near Newark’s University Hospital to investigate a shots-fired incident Tuesday evening.
Officers responded to reports of shots fired in the 30's block of Bergen Street shortly before 6:20 p.m.
Detectives from Newark's Major Crimes Shooting Team arrived and requested traffic be shut down in the area after they found a crime scene at that location.
The condition of the victim was only reported as serious.
Police focused their attention on the area around the Georgia King Village Housing complex. The neighborhood around the hospital is no stranger to random gunfire at any given time.
The circumstances behind this shooting is under investigation at this time.
No arrests have been reported.
