A large fight in Newark's South Ward escalated into a shooting incident Thursday evening.
Police were called to the vicinity of 493 Irvine Turner Boulevard around 5:50 p.m. following multiple 911 calls about a significant disturbance involving both physical and verbal altercations among a group of individuals.
As the conflict intensified, reports said shots were fired, prompting officers to swiftly secure the area.
Upon arrival, law enforcement found shell casings and immediately summoned the Shooting Response Team to assist with the investigation.
Police managed to disperse the crowd, and a thorough check confirmed that there were no injuries despite the gunfire.The shooter, however, managed to flee the scene and remains at large.
Authorities are actively investigating the incident, working to identify and apprehend the individual responsible for the gunfire.
