Newark Police officials are investigating a shots fired incident that occurred in downtown Newark on Thursday night.The incident, which did not result in any injuries, took place shortly after 9 p.m. near the intersection of University Avenue and Bank Street.
Authorities were alerted by a ShotSpotter activation in the area, leading them to discover shell casings upon arrival. Despite a thorough search of the vicinity, no victims were found.
The situation escalated when police pursued a vehicle that was later found parked at The Garden Spires, 175 1st Street.
Although one individual was detained and a weapon was recovered at this location, police are still investigating to determine if this event is directly connected to the earlier shooting.The investigation into both the shooting and the subsequent vehicle pursuit remains active and ongoing.
