Police recovered shell casings on a street that borders I-78 in Newark's South Ward on Sunday morning.
The shots fired investigation occurred in the vicinity of Marie Place and Irvine Turner Boulevard where police responded to gunfire that rang out at approximately 2:45 a.m.
Police say the suspect fled the scene immediately after the shooting.
Officers searched the area for victims, but there were no injuries reported.
The motive for the shooting remains under investigation.
