An overnight shooting in a Jersey City neighborhood had a man transported to the hospital suffering non-life threatening injuries.
Police responded to reports of shots fired that rang out in the area of Summit Avenue and Fairmont Avenue before 3 a.m.
Officers arriving at the scene found several shell casings and blood on the scene, but no victims were located according to reports.
While detectives were processing the scene, officials at the Jersey City Medical Center contacted police when a male victim entered the hospital suffering a gunshot wound to the leg.
According to a preliminary investigation, a good Samaritan found the victim in the area of Summit Avenue and Fairmont Avenue bleeding from the leg and assisted by rushing the victim to the hospital.
The motive for the shooting is under investigation.
Jersey City Police Department will handle the investigation.
