Gang Member Sentenced to 28 Years for Shooting Four, Killing One in Newark

An Irvington Township man associated with the Rollin' 60s Neighborhood Crips has been sentenced to 28 years in federal prison for his role in a racketeering conspiracy involving violent crimes and drug trafficking, according to a statement released by the Department of Justice.   Ad

Elijah Williams, 24, also known as "Lil Smith," pleaded guilty in Newark federal court to charges under the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations (RICO) Act.

His crimes included multiple shootings targeting rival gang members and associates.  

"Williams brazenly shot four individuals, killing one and paralyzing another," said U.S. Attorney Philip R. Sellinger.

"This sentence ensures he will no longer pose a threat to the communities he terrorized. We remain committed to tackling gang violence and protecting the public."  

Federal officials said from 2015 to 2022, Williams was an active member of the Rollin' 60s Neighborhood Crips, a gang engaged in violence and drug trafficking throughout New Jersey.

On September 25, 2018, in Newark, he attempted to kill four people, leaving one paralyzed.

Accoridng to The Department of Justice, on March 20, 2019, in Irvington, he fatally shot another individual in retaliation for the murder of a fellow gang member.  

"Drug trafficking and violence often bring deadly consequences," said Cheryl Ortiz, DEA Special Agent in Charge.

"This sentencing reflects the resolve of law enforcement to bring offenders like Williams to justice."

Williams' sentence also includes five years of supervised release. His prosecution was part of a joint effort by federal, state, and local authorities under the Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force initiative.
