Newark East Ward's Ferguson Street residents and neighbors on surrounding streets were awakened to a large contingency of front loader dump trucks, plows, and salt spreaders as the city reinforced it's efforts to get to more than 20 square miles of land with over 1000 city streets.
The city, -with the assistance from The New Jersey Department of Transportation- teamed up and worked through the night, plowing and removing large amount of snow after Saturday's storm dumped a record two and a half feet of snow on the city.
This is the mosts snow that any administration has ever had to tackle according to residents on Ferguson Street.
"Although it's been frustrating, we do have to understand that this was an unprecedented weather occurrence. I don't think any municipality could be prepared for anything like this as especially a city as large as our city (Newark)", several residents said.
"We are just happy that they got to us" the residents continued.
City officials will continue to work through the day to remove snow and has urged residents who have not had their streets plowed to call 973-877-9260.
Other area cities (East Orange, Irvington, Hillside, Elizabeth, Union, Orange, Roselle) have increased manpower to remove large amounts of snow around their cities.
