Police in Newark reported the arrests of Newark residents Mr. Shyhiem Baxter, 22, for possession of a loaded .40 caliber handgun and CDS and Mr. Martin Pettiford, 23, on aggravated assault charges.
According to police officials, while in the area of 11th Avenue and South 9th Street, detectives observed Baxter who was sought by the shooting response team.
Detectives approached Baxter and discovered that he had a loaded handgun and drugs in his possession.
Police immediately placed Baxter in custody then charged him with the unlawful possession of a weapon, receiving stolen property -the gun was reported stolen- and possession of CDS.
According to authorities, officers observed Pettiford near the New Community Complex when they arrested him for past aggravated assault and eluding charges.
