A suspect wanted in connection with a deadly shooting in Hazlet last weekend has been apprehended in Brooklyn, New York, according to Monmouth County Prosecutor Raymond S. Santiago.
Monmouth County officials said Mr. Gaetano S. Scannavino, 25, who was previously residing in Brooklyn, was taken into custody on Thursday, September 19, by officers from the NYPD's 61st and 62nd Precincts.The arrest follows an investigation into the events of Saturday, September 14, when Hazlet police responded to a report of an emergency at 270 Route 36 around 7:18 a.m.
Upon arrival, they discovered Anthony Hill, 42, of Eatontown, lying dead near a dumpster with multiple gunshot wounds.
Following a joint investigation by the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office and the Hazlet Police Department, Scannavino was identified as the primary suspect.
He faces charges of first-degree murder, first-degree carjacking, and two second-degree weapons offenses.
Scannavino is currently being held in New York pending extradition to New Jersey, where he will face trial in Monmouth County Superior Court.Assistant Prosecutor Joseph Cummings of the Major Crimes Bureau is handling the case.
