Newark and the North Jersey region are waking up to frigid temperatures this morning, with the thermometer reading 23 degrees at 4:30 a.m.
However, strong winds will make it feel much colder, with wind chills dropping into the single digits. Therefore, anyone heading outdoors today should dress in layers and bundle up.
The winds are even stronger than yesterday, with gusts expected to approach 50 mph throughout the day.
These gusts will create bitterly cold wind chill values, making it feel like 15 degrees in Sussex County, 10 degrees in Bergen County, and as low as 9 degrees in parts of Passaic County.
According to the National Weather Service, today's forecast is sunny, with a high near 33 degrees. Despite the sunshine, wind chill values will range between 5 and 15 degrees, making for a biting day.
The northwest winds will persist at 21 to 29 mph, with occasional gusts reaching 50 mph.
Tonight, the skies will remain clear, and temperatures will drop to around 24 degrees.
While tomorrow promises slightly milder conditions, today’s harsh winds demand extra precautions to stay warm and safe.
