Newark and North Jersey residents are waking up to a frigid Saturday morning, with temperatures setting the stage for an incoming snowstorm expected to arrive early this afternoon. It is currently 28 degrees in Newark at 5:30 a.m
According to the National Weather Service, precipitation will begin as rain before transitioning to snow around 2 p.m., bringing an expected 1 to 3 inches of accumulation across the region.
Some areas may see higher totals, depending on location.

Those planning to head out today should consider completing errands early, as road conditions are expected to deteriorate once the snow begins to fall.
The forecast calls for a high near 36 degrees, with light winds shifting from the south at 5 to 8 mph by the morning.
As the evening progresses, the snow will mix with rain before turning to all rain after 10 p.m., with temperatures gradually rising to around 36 degrees by 1 a.m.
With slippery roads and reduced visibility expected, drivers should exercise caution and plan ahead for the changing weather conditions.
