Frigid Monday Morning Kicks Off the Week in Newark, North Jersey

Residents in Newark and across North Jersey are waking up to a bitterly cold start to the week, with temperatures dipping into the low 20s and wind chills making it feel even colder.

At 4:30 a.m., Newark registered a chilly 23 degrees, but with the wind, it felt closer to 16. 

In Sussex County, conditions were even harsher, with wind chills making it feel like 10 degrees, while Morristown was experiencing a similar biting cold at 16 degrees.

Despite the cold start, there is good news—plenty of sunshine is expected throughout the day, which should provide some relief compared to the frigid conditions over the weekend.

According to the National Weather Service, today's forecast calls for sunny skies and a high near 39 degrees. 

However, wind chill values will still make it feel like 10 to 20 degrees. Winds will be out of the west at 6 to 10 mph.

Tonight, skies will remain mostly clear, with temperatures dropping to around 25 degrees.
