As my friends and family in Newark and the North Jersey region step out this morning, they're greeted by blisteringly cold conditions, setting the stage for the anticipated winter storm this weekend.
Today, the area remains dry but extremely cold, with wind chills making it feel like a frigid 23 degrees in Newark.
The day will be dominated by blustery and cold weather despite the sunshine.
The National Weather Service reports that Friday will see sunny skies with a high near 39 degrees, but wind chill values will hover between 20 and 30, accompanied by a northwest wind around eight mph.
As night falls, increasing clouds will mark the onset of the approaching storm, with lows around 27 degrees.
Saturday is critical in the weather narrative, with a storm watch and winter weather advisory in effect.
National Weather Service meteorologist said snowfall is expected to commence and intensify after 4 p.m., potentially disrupting the region with heavy snow and frozen precipitation.
Depending on where you are in North Jersey, some areas will see heavier snow totals while others will experience frozen precipitation or even rain.
Residents are advised to complete any outdoor tasks early on Saturday, as conditions are predicted to swiftly deteriorate, potentially impacting travel and outdoor activities.
Preparation and caution are essential as the region braces for this significant weather event.
