Frigid Communion Sunday Greets Newark Worshippers; Snow Expected Later

Newark

By: Richard L. Smith

As worshippers across Newark and North Jersey prepare for Communion Sunday services, they are stepping out into frigid temperatures that feel even colder due to strong winds.According to the National Weather Service, Newark residents woke up to 16-degree temperatures that feel like 8 degrees, while Morristown faced an icy 9 degrees with wind chills dropping below zero.

Sussex County felt like -3 degrees, Haledon registered a bone-chilling -1, and Bloomfield started the day with a brisk 6-degree feel.

For those heading out to early morning services, bundling up with a warm coat, gloves, and a hat is essential.

However, those planning to stay for later worship services or afternoon fellowship should also bring an umbrella, as precipitation is expected later in the day.

The National Weather Service forecasts a 30 percent chance of snow beginning around 4 p.m., with partly sunny skies and a high near 36 degrees.

Wind chill values will remain between 10 and 20 degrees throughout the afternoon.

By evening, snow is likely, especially between 7 p.m. and 1 a.m., with mostly cloudy skies and a steady temperature around 33 degrees.

As North Jersey congregations gather for worship and reflection, they are advised to stay warm and be prepared for changing weather conditions throughout the day.
