Franklin Township Police Dispel Serial Killer Rumors

The Franklin Township Police Department is working to address and debunk baseless rumors circulating on social media about a supposed serial killer in the area, according to information released by the Somerset Police Department.AdAuthorities are urging residents to stay vigilant but to approach such false claims with caution to avoid unnecessary alarm.  

The rumors, which have gained traction online, have caused unwarranted panic within the community.

Public Safety Director Quovella M. Maeweather noted that these types of social media hoaxes are part of a growing national trend.

While the images and stories tied to these rumors may seem alarming, investigations have confirmed that the information is fabricated and originates from sources outside the state.

These details are often manipulated to incite fear on a local level.  

The Franklin Township Police Department is advising the public to critically evaluate online content, particularly from unverified sources.

To help combat the spread of misinformation, residents are encouraged to avoid sharing such posts and to report any suspicious or fraudulent material directly to the administrators of social media platforms.

The department is actively collaborating with these platforms to remove misleading content.  

“We are committed to ensuring the safety of our residents and addressing any legitimate threats to public safety,” said Director Maeweather.

“These online rumors are baseless and only serve to create unnecessary anxiety.
