Police in Franklin Lakes were on a high-speed pursuit of a vehicle on several Newark East Ward streets early this morning.
According to preliminary reports, Franklin Lakes officers began to follow a black Audi that sped away from them and onto the southbound lanes of NJ-208 after an attempted traffic stop of the stolen vehicle.
Police say the driver of the suspected vehicle ended up on NJ-17 south then the NJ Turnpike until it reached Newark.
The chase went high speed down South Street in Newark where it narrowly missed striking a male resident who was leaving for work according to residents.
Police lost contact of the vehicle westbound on South Street. Long travel back to Franklin Lakes for officers to return empty-handed and without a suspect.
There were no injuries reported.
