“I commend the officers involved for their quick actions in recovering an illegal handgun used recklessly on our streets,” Director Ambrose said. “We are vigilant about apprehending anyone who attempts to commit acts of violence in this city. Everyone should be reminded that the City of Newark is not a place where you can wreak havoc in our neighborhoods.”
According to Director Ambrose, a Newark Special Police Officer on patrol just after 1:45 a.m. observed gunfire from a 4-door white sedan in the 500 block of Clinton Avenue.
At the same time, a Shot Spotter notification was received from the same area. Police canvassing the area, located the vehicle in the 800 block of South 11th Street according to Director Ambrose.
Officers observed a defaced handgun inside the vehicle and all four individuals were immediately arrested.
Along with the gun possession charge, each suspect faces a charge of conspiracy and possession of a defaced handgun.
Wilson faces the additional charges of aggravated assault, possession of a handgun for an unlawful purpose and hindering apprehension.
These charges are merely accusations.
