Four Arrested for Possession of Loaded AK-47 in Newark

Police in Newark is reporting the arrest of four Newark men for possession of a loaded AK-47 firearm last night.

According to police, at approximately 10:38 p.m., police Lieutenant Euclides Lopez of the 5th Precinct heard shots fired while patrolling the area of Leo Place and Vernon Avenue. Lt. Lopez observed a red Jeep Cherokee fleeing the area and attempted to conduct a motor vehicle stop.

The suspect vehicle ignored his commands to stop and continued to Hedden Place, where four suspects exited the vehicle and fled on foot.

Police apprehended all four suspects, **Nygee Johnson, 18, Mutah N. Brown, 20, Naquan King, 21, and Nakyle Walton, 21,**.

Officers found a loaded AK-47 firearm in the vehicle.

Johnson, Brown, King and Walton were each taken into custody and charged with Unlawful Possession of a Weapon, Possession of a Prohibited Weapon, Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose and Resisting Arrest.

Nykyle Walton, the driver of the vehicle, was also charged with Eluding and was issued various motor vehicle summonses.

These charges are merely accusations. Each suspect is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
