Acting Essex County Prosecutor Carolyn A. Murray announced today that the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office has arrested Janita Warner, 38, of Newark, a former Newark school board employee, and charged her with theft, theft by failure to make required deposits, forgery and computer crime.
Prosecutor's said it is alleged that Warner utilized school computers to alter her son’s high school transcript and forwarded it to colleges as a part of his college application. Warner is also accused of using her position as treasurer in the Lafayette Street School to withdraw funds from the school account and to accept student dues without depositing the money in the bank where she allegedly stole $2,900.
Warner was arrested today at her new job at an industrial facility in South Brunswick. She is being held at the Essex County Correctional Facility on $50,000 bail according to prosecutors.
These are accusations. All defendants are presumed to be innocent unless and until they enter a guilty pled or are found guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
