Former Newark Police Officer Indicted on Charges of Stalking, Impersonating a Cop

Newark New Jersey

A former Newark police officer was indicted on charges of stalking and impersonating a police officer, among other things, after he allegedly harassed his former girlfriend.

According to Eddie Gonzalez's attorney, his client denies stalking his ex-girlfriends as well as ever wearing a police uniform to impersonate a police officer.

The attorney added that the false accusations against his client began after the ex-girlfriend's brother was charged in an incident involving Gonzalez.

On Jan. 16, 2008, Gonzalez was terminated from his position as a Newark police officer after having been convicted of a petty disorderly person offense of harassment.

Gonzalez allegedly dressed in his police uniform forced his tongue into a 14-year-old's mouth on Aug. 28, 2002. After the encounter, the unidentified girl filed a harassment complaint against Gonzalez.

However, Gonzalez claims the incident never occurred.
