Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez said Ariel Dumit, 38, hailing from Florida, has been sentenced by the Honorable Carlo Abad, J.S.C., on Monday, August 14.
Dumit has received a 30-year term of confinement in New Jersey State Prison for his involvement in the 2021 shooting death of Christian Parra, 34, a resident of Jersey City. Dumit was found guilty of the charges of Murder, Possession of a Weapon for Unlawful Purposes, and Unlawful Possession of a Weapon during the trial held on Tuesday, April 18, 2023.
Dumit's prison sentence mandates that he serve a full 30 years before being considered eligible for parole.
The prosecution was led by Hudson County Assistant Prosecutors Erica Bertuzzi and Luisa Florez.
The incident, which unfolded on Sunday, February 28, 2021, at around 8:18 p.m., prompted a response from the Jersey City Police Department.
The shooting was reported in the BJ's Parking Lot situated at 396 Marin Boulevard in Jersey City.
Upon arrival, officers discovered Christian Parra, 34, a local resident, with a gunshot wound to his torso.
He was rushed to Jersey City Medical Center, where he was pronounced deceased at 9 p.m.
The Regional Medical Examiner's Office established that the cause of death was attributed to a gunshot wound to the torso which was classified as a homicide.
