Five Clifton fifth-graders were detained and suspended from school after a plot to set off a potentially explosive device at the High School according to a police spokesperson.
According to authorities, five fifth-graders from School 11 were detained after they planned to explode a device at Clifton High School was immediately noticed by school officials.
Police said a device was recovered but contained only cinnamon and vinegar but police said that the students' alleged plan was no prank.
According to reports, at around 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday, police received calls from school officials who said they had uncovered written plans by the fifth-graders to bring an explosive device to the high school during a field trip that was scheduled for later in the afternoon.
School officials cancelled the trip immediately after uncovering the alleged plot.
“They didn’t have the right equipment, but the intent was there,” authorities said.

The incident is under investigation.
