Five Arrested in Connection to Newark Shootings Throughout January

Authorities in Newark have made multiple arrests in connection with a series of shootings that took place between January 6 and January 24. Newark Public Safety Director Emanuel Miranda, Sr., announced the apprehensions of five individuals—two women and three men—on various weapons and assault charges.

The arrests stem from ongoing investigations into violent incidents across the city. Each suspect faces charges related to firearm possession or aggravated assault.  

- Satira A. Jenkins, 32, of Newark, was taken into custody on January 6, charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and unlawful possession of a weapon.  


- Luis J. Centeno Cruz, 50, also of Newark, was arrested on January 7 for unlawful possession of a weapon.  


- Monasha I. Lang, 32, of East Orange, was apprehended on January 10 and faces charges of aggravated assault and unlawful possession of a weapon.  


- Marc A. Greene, 33, of Roselle Park, was also arrested on January 10 and charged with aggravated assault and unlawful possession of a weapon.  


- Justin A. Gonzalez, 24, of Newark, was arrested on January 24 for unlawful possession of a weapon.  

Authorities have not released specific details about the incidents linked to these arrests but confirmed that the charges stem from separate shootings throughout January. 

Officials emphasized that these arrests are part of ongoing efforts to combat gun violence in Newark and improve public safety.

Authorities remind the public that all charges at this stage are accusations, and the individuals are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
