A first-grader in the Newark school system died Thursday after school officials say child was experiencing flu-like symptoms.
District officials from the Oliver Street school said that after being absent from school for a period of ten days the child finally returned to school.
Letters were sent home, as well as a district call was made to inform parents that the flu-like symptoms is said to have caused the child's death.
The district said its having the classroom cleaned as a precaution.
The Newark Department of Health and the district are closely investigating the student's death,
