Newark Fire officials responded to a fire in a highrise building in the city's South Ward shortly before midnight Thursday.
At approximately 11:50 p.m., police were dispatched to 455 Elizabeth Avenue to investigate reports of a fire on the 11th floor of the building.
Upon arrival, crews noticed heavy smoke from the multi-family structure with no visible heavy flames.
Crews found the seat of the fire in one of the apartments, but no severe injuries were reported in any of the nearby residences.
Firefighters and EMS checked for victims on the upper floors, but no serious injuries were reported.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
