Newark firefighters made fast work out of a fire that damaged a residence in the city early Sunday morning.
Officials say fire broke out on the second floor of a three-story wood framed home located in the 400 block of South 6th Street just before 3:30 a.m.
Crews arrived at the scene and found smoke coming from the structure where they made entry and knocked down in under 30 minutes according to reports.
A search of the residence was negative for trapped or injured occupants according to officials.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
