A family escaped a fast moving fire that destroyed a house early this morning in Totowa.
Firefighters were dispatched at about 4:00 AM to a home on Riverview Dr. in Totowa on reports of a house fire.
Crews arrived to find intense smoke and flames showing from the front of the home.
A couple and a child were out of the structure,!as well as a cat, and a ferret but crews were made aware that a kitten was still inside according to officials.
Firefighters were able to locate the unconscious kitten towards the rear of the house officials said.
Crews revived the feline with the help of a special oxygen mask made for pets that had been donated to emergency responders by local Girl Scouts officials said.
The blaze was brought under control in about one hour, but the home had received extensive damage.
The cause is under investigation.
