Firefighters Quickly Extinguish Fire in Newark's South Ward

There were minor injuries in an early morning house fire that erupted in the city's South Ward.

Firefighters rushed to the 200 block of Leslie Street shortly before 4:30 a.m after receiving reports of smoke and fire coming from at house at 293 Leslie.

Crews arriving to the scene began the process of knocking down flames reportedly coming from the kitchen area of the residence.

Firefighters were successful in preventing extensions to neighboring homes but the primary location of the fire suffered damage.

EMS transported at least two victims to Newark's Beth Israel Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
