In a display of fast action and coordination, about two dozen firefighters tackled a fierce blaze in an abandoned building in Newark's North Ward late Saturday night. The fire, which broke out in the two-story building on the 30's block of Broad Street near Rafael Hernandez Elementary School, was reported shortly before 11 p.m.
Using approximately nine lines, the crews worked diligently to subdue the flames that had engulfed the roof of the structure.
Despite the intensity of the fire, their efforts ensured that it did not spread to adjacent structures. By 11:35 p.m., firefighters had successfully brought the situation under control.
The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
Remarkably, no injuries were reported in the incident.
