Firefighters Extuguish Two-Alarm House Fire in Newark's South Ward

An early morning fast moving house fire the erupted in the city's South Ward had firefighters on the scene.

Fire broke out at 291 Ridgewood Avenue just before 5 a.m. sending crews to the scene where they noticed heavy smoke and flames blowing from the rear of the structure according to reports.

Firefighters immediately attacked the fire from all angles, knocking flames down in less that a half hour with no extensions to other properties.

A thorough search of the house had no injured occupants located.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Firefighters were credited for their rapid on the scene response.
