Firefighters Extinguish Blaze in Vacant Newark House

Firefighters swiftly extinguished a fire that broke out in a vacant house in the city’s North Ward last night.

Crews were called to the two-story house located at 77 Stone Street at around 8:30 p.m. where upon their arrival they noticed smoke and flames coming from the basement of the structure.

The fire was concentrated to the basement with minor extensions to the first floor.

A search of the building came up negative for injured occupants.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
