Firefighters are battling a multiple-alarm fire that started in an upholstery business on Sherman Avenue, according to officials.
The firefighters were called to the 900 block of Sherman Avenue at 8:59 a.m. for reports of heavy smoke originating from Keith's Upholstery. Upon arrival heavy fire was present inside the business.
The strip houses several businesses such as a Dominican Beauty Stop, McGowen Fabric, Nugent BBQ, SZE Foon Kitchen, Twin City Laundromat and a liquor store.
There were no immediate reports of injuries and it is unknown at this time exactly how much damage the second floor vacant retail space suffered.
The fire has been contained to the upholstery and the BBQ restaurant next door.
The investigation as to what caused the fire will commence once the fire is placed under control.
