Newark Firefighters extinguished a two-alarm fire that broke out inside a building on Newark's west side of the city Tuesday night.
At approximately 11:40 p.m., firefighters were dispatched to the 700 block of Springfield Avenue near 20th Street.
Upon arrival, firefighters found heavy flames from the rear of a large three-story apartment building with a business on the bottom floor.
Officials struck a second alarm for manpower after smoke and flames intensified.
Crews managed to get the blaze under control in under an hour, but not before a floor collapsed inside the building.
A final search for the structure returned negative and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
