Fire officials in Newark's West Ward are investigating the cause of a house that destroyed a vacant house in that section of the city Saturday morning.
According to officials, residents contacted firefighters after observing smoke and flames coming from a house located at 35 Longfellow Avenue shortly before 4:47 a.m.
Crews arrived and stretched several lines after finding the seat of the fire in the basement of the home.
The fire was declared under control in under a half-hour with no injuries reported.
The cause is under investigation.
