All staff and animals made it out of a raging three-alarm fire that tore through an animal hospital in Essex County on Saturday night.
The fast-moving fire ignited inside the Animal Hospital of Fairfield, located at 428 Fairfield Road, just before 9:10 p.m.
Crews arrived at the scene and struck a second, then third alarm for manpower as they observed heavy flames coming from the roof of the structure, according to fire officials.
Firefighters stretched several lines to and preformed a surround and drowned operation to get the blaze under control in about an hour and a half.
A search of the building indicated no trapped or injured occupants or animals, according to fire officials.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
