A raging overnight 3-alarm fire that tore through a large building in Fairfield has fire officials investigating this morning.
Firefighters from several counties including Essex, Morris, and Passaic Counties were called in to help battle a multiple alarm fire in Fairfield overnight.
According to officials, the blaze ignited in a large one story building at 1275 Bloomfield Ave. at about 11:00 PM. Fire officials said the building housed numerous small businesses.
The fire originated in the middle of the building and began to quickly spread within. Several explosions, (possibly from propane tanks, and live electrical wires in front of the building) hampered firefighting efforts.
Firefighters were able to keep the fire from consuming the entire structure, but about four businesses were gutted.
There were no serious injuries reported.
The fire took about four hours to bring under control, but firefighters remained at the scene into Sunday morning.
