A challenging fire erupted this morning in the Red Hawk parking deck on the Montclair State University campus, causing significant damage to several vehicles.Firefighters from Montclair were dispatched to the scene at approximately 10:30 a.m., where they encountered a car fully engulfed in flames on the 7-story parking deck.
Upon their rapid arrival, fire crews witnessed the blaze spreading to adjacent cars.
Firefighters extended two hoses and managed to douse what appeared to be a gas-fed fire.
Their prompt response prevented further escalation, although the flames extensively damaged about three vehicles.
Fortunately, there were no reported injuries in the incident. However, as a precautionary measure and to ensure public safety, university officials and fire personnel have temporarily closed the parking deck.
This closure will remain in effect until structural engineers have thoroughly assessed any potential damage caused by the fire.
The cause of the fire remains under active investigation as authorities work to determine the source of this alarming incident.
