A raging two-alarm house fire that broke out in the city's North Ward sent firefighters to the scene early this morning.
Newark's bravest were called to the 100 block of Wakeman Avenue after receiving several reports of a fire inside a house with possible trapped occupants at around 2 a.m.
Firefighters arrived within minutes where they noticed thick smoke and heavy flames coming from 143 Wakeman Avenue according to reports.
The fully involved two and a half story house had more than a dozen firefighters at work as crews were able to bring the fire under control in about an hour.
Demolition crews were called in to knock down what remained of the structure.
EMS were on the scene but it is not immediately clear if anyone was injured.
The cause of the fire is under investigation by Newark fire officials.
