A fire that tore through a building in Irvington Township overnight destroyed businesses and left several people homeless.
Heavy fire ripped through a building located in the 90's block of Lincoln Place at Lyons Avenue that was occupied by multiple families on the upper floors and had several businesses, including a barbershop and a bar, on the lower level.
According to preliminary reports, crews arrived at the scene to find heavy fire coming from the barbershop that began to extend to the Pacemaker Lounge and residences upstairs.
Firefighters struck a second alarm when flames became intense and as crews began to chase flames that spread through the walls of the structure.
Mutual assistance from Newark, Orange, Maplewood, and West Orange assisted in the fire that had no serious injuries reported.
There were over 15 occupants assisted by the American Red Cross.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
