Late last night, Newark firefighters were called to combat a severe fire at a newly constructed apartment building in the Ironbound section.According to preliminary reports, the fire was reported at 502 Market Street–at Monroe Street–shortly before midnight, with flames tearing through the multi-family structure's roof.
Upon arrival, firefighting crews swiftly extended three hose lines to tackle the blaze aggressively.
Crews managed to enter the building, encountering flames in at least two apartments on the 5th floor.
Firefighters worked to extinguish the stubborn flames throughout the structure.
A thorough search of the building, including the 5th floor, confirmed that no trapped or injured occupants were found.
Although the fire was brought under control within approximately 45 minutes, crews continued to address pockets of fire that flared up until about 1 a.m.
The cause of the fire is currently under investigation by local authorities.
The Newark Fire Department's quick response and effective action prevented injuries and limited the extent of the building's damage.
