Fire officials in Newark are investigating what caused a fire inside a district-owned building that caused damage on Tuesday afternoon.
Firefighters were called to 190 Muhammad Ali Avenue -the old Harold Wilson School- after a fast-moving fire ignited inside a second-floor storage unit just before 4:10 p.m.
Crews arrived at the scene and were able to contain the fire to a unit that stored musical equipment for the Newark Public Schools district according to preliminary reports.
The fire caused some structural damage to the unit, but there were no reports of extensions to other parts of the building. Harold Wilson in its current form does not house students for classes according to officials.
Firefighters placed the blaze under control in under a half hour with the cause under investigation.
There were no injuries reported.
