Authorities are investigating a stabbing that occurred on the Rutgers Newark Campus this morning.
Officials said at approximately 10:20 a.m. today, one of our undergraduate students was assaulted in Dana Library by an assailant brandishing a sharp object. The student sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was alert upon being transported from the scene to the hospital. Rutgers University Police Department officers arrived on the scene quickly and apprehended the assailant, who is not a member of the RU-N community and is now in custody. There is no ongoing threat to the RU-N community.
Chancellor Cantor and other RU-N leaders are reportedly at the hospital with the student and her family now.
Rutgers University Police Department is reviewing all of the circumstances and evidence. The library remains open as normal.
