Police are investigating a reported shoplifting incident that had a loss prevention officer suffer minor injuries after one of the suspects sprayed a chemical at him at the Short Hills Mall on Thursday evening.
According to preliminary reports, police were called to the Bloomingdales to investigate reports of a shoplifting in progress just before 8 p.m.
Upon arrival, officers began a search for 4-5 black females who entered the store and attempted to shoplift several items.
When store officials became aware of what the women were doing, the suspects made their way to the exit where they reportedly sprayed the loss prevention officer with pepper spray according to reports.
The suspects entered a silver vehicle and sped away from the scene.
The investigation remains active and ongoing.
