A fatal shooting in Newark is under investigation by the Essex County Prosecutor's Office this evening.
Gunfire rang out at around shortly after 11 a.m. in the single digit block of Pearson Lane sending police to the scene where a male victim was struck in the back by gunfire according to authorities.
The victim was transported to University Hospital where he was pronounced dead several hours later a spokesperson for the Prosecutor's Office said.
The victim's identity has not ben released at this time.
Theere has been no arrests according to the Prosecutor's Office.
