Authorities in Hudson County announced that the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Unit and the Jersey City Police Department are investigating a fatal shooting that occurred on Friday, October 11.
Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez stated shortly before 5 p.m., the Jersey City Police Department was notified of shots fired in the area of Garfield Avenue and Brown Place.
Responding officers located a male victim – later identified as Kashyne Grant, 19, of Jersey City – with an apparent gunshot wound to the upper body, County officials stated.
According to Hudson County officials, he was transported to Jersey City Medical Center for treatment, where he was pronounced dead just after 10 a.m. on Monday, October 14.
The Cause and Manner of Death are pending the findings of the Regional Medical Examiner’s Office, Jersey City Police said.
Hudson County authorities said the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Unit and the Jersey City Police Department are actively investigating this matter.
No arrests have been made at this time, officials say.
