There is a homicide investigation underway as detectives for the Essex County Prosecutor's try to determine the motive for a shooting that left one person dead at a location in the township Saturday night.
According to preliminary reports for authorities, Irvington Police were called to the vicinity 515 Chancellor Avenue "Laundry Depot" shortly before 8:30 p.m. for reports of suspicious activities.
Units arriving at the scene found the male victim suffering gunshot wounds at that location.
A spokesperson for the Essex County Prosecutor's Office said the unidentified victim was pronounced dead at University Hospital.
The identity of the victim is being held pending next of kin contact by police.
