The Attorney General’s Office of Public Integrity is investigating a fatal shooting involving police that occurred on October 19 in the Browns Mills section of Pemberton Township.The incident resulted in the death of an adult male, though authorities have not yet released his identity.
A firearm was recovered near the deceased individual, according to initial reports.
In compliance with a 2019 New Jersey law (N.J.S.A. 52:17B-107(a)(2)), the Attorney General’s Office is responsible for investigating any death that occurs during an encounter with law enforcement officers or while an individual is in custody.
The law mandates that all such investigations be presented to a grand jury to determine whether the evidence supports charging the officer or officers involved.
The investigation is ongoing, and no further details have been made public at this time.
